Notting Hill Arts Club - Notting Hill Gate
This west London venue was doing eclectic years before anyone in Shoreditch even knew how to spell the word. They possess an unswerving sense of cool which results in a varied and vibrant music programme unlike any other place in the capital. Each night is dedicated to a different party vibe with the only unifying theme being an unstinting dedication to dance floor quality. With Monday being closed, Tuesdays is No Quarter, a wildly unpredictable DJ Line-up with a loyal following. Wednesday night is indie-rock night and Thurdays sees the arts club go Latino with Club Muevete. The star of the weekend is undoubtably DJ Derek, a white pensioner from Bristol who happens to have one of the biggest reggae collections outside Jamaica. He's no slouch on the turntables either as he keeps the floor bubbling with vintage sounds and flawless Caribbean patter.

Berners Tavern - Fitzrovia
From palatial décor, to cutting edge menu, Berners Tavern sets out to impress and is sure to be a big hit with London's glamour set. Monster chandeliers, ornate ceilings and a runway sized cocktail bar ensure that the kitchen has a tough act to follow, which they do with consummate style. The seafood platter and rack of lamb are done bigger and better here than almost anywhere else in the capital, yet its the witty little details that linger long in the memory.
This is no more so than on the hugely entertaining cocktail menu. A drink made with Coco Pops milk is called Cereal Killer while a cocktail derived from mead goes by the name Mead, Myself and I. Flourishes like this, together with coolly elegant waiting staff, make this place as far removed from a traditional "tavern" as its possible to be without leaving the planet. A serious culinary destination, then and definitely one to dress up for.
